Technology
The O-Wind Turbine, a patented micro wind turbine capable of harnessing winds from all directions (horizontally, vertically, and anywhere in between), this unique capacity makes it the first of a new category of wind turbines. Its spherical, blade-less design makes it safe and ideal for urban applications, whether self-standing or mounted on building facades and other infrastructure.
While most existing wind turbines operate based on lift or drag, the O-Wind relies on the Venturi Effect. Channels on its surface internally conduct the air over various sections, creating zones of higher and lower pressure. These strategically placed zones generate a spinning force, enabling rotation along a single axis, regardless of wind direction. An internal generator captures this rotational movement, producing electrical energy for onsite infrastructure, microgrids, or storage in a battery bank.
Our team is committed to continuously improving the technology's performance and developing versions tailored for various applications, such as balconies, boats, and roadsides.
R & D
Since our company's founding in 2019, the technology has undergone a series of changes and enhancements, bringing us to the present day.
The original award-winning design (Version 1) served as a proof of concept, demonstrating the principal's viability as a novel wind turbine capable of harnessing horizontal and vertical winds, a novelty in the market. The next step was optimising the design for maximum energy generation.
Version 2 resulted from the first R&D phase, during which various parameters were identified and modifications were tested using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. The most successful modifications were combined to create the new design. A 70cm diameter prototype, constructed from carbon fibre, underwent successful wind tunnel testing at the end of 2021.
The latest iteration (Version 3) was achieved following a second R&D phase, supported by Innovate UK. The process resulted in version 3 making an improvement of nearly three times compared to version 1. The new model will be the first commercial version of O-Wind.
FAQ
If you have any more questions, feel free to contact us!
Where can an O-Wind be installed?
The O-Wind is aimed at cities where large buildings or steep terrain create strong/chaotic winds. Suitable locations within those cities can be in public or private areas.
Contact us for more information
Can you install O-Winds in my city?
Yes! The team will be assessing cities to find those with the greatest potential for O-Wind. If you think your city would be a good fit, please get in touch via out contact us page.

How much energy can O-Wind generate?
As with any wind turbine, the energy output of the O-Wind depends on the wind conditions of the specific location where it’s installed. In the right location, it can deliver the equivalent to a standard UK household yearly expense and as much as the average solar panel installation in the UK.
Contact us for more information
What materials is it built on?
We use recyclable composites for our prototypes and pilots and are exploring further sustainable solutions for mass implementation.
Contact us for more information
Is O-Wind Wildlife Friendly?
Yes, as O-Wind is bladeless, it is wildlife friendly
Contact us for more information
Can I sign up for a waiting list?
Yes, please sign up via our contact us page.
Contact us for more information
Are you looking for distributors or sponsors outside the UK?
Yes, the O-Wind will be launched first in the UK but will be expanding to other countries very soon. If you are interested in commercial distribution or becoming a sponsor in your country, please get in touch via our contact us page.
Contact us for more information
Is my private location suitable to install an O-Wind?
In order to understand the potential for O-Wind in your location, we will carry out a computational analysis and power output estimation for you to make an informed decision. If you would like us to assess a specific site, please get in touch via our contact us page.
Contact us for more information
What size is an O-Wind?
O-Wind is 2.2 metres in diameter. Further versions will be developed for new applications in due course.
Contact us for more information
Is O-Wind noisy?
No. All testing so far indicates O-Wind is virtually silent
Contact us for more information
Is it available?
Not yet, but very soon! We are doing some final validations and will be ready.
