POSITION DUTIES

This position serves as an extendedlearning opportunities specialist responsible for providing leadership andtechnical assistance in the areas of summer and after school learningopportunities and youth development to 21st Century Community grant recipientsand Maryland’s 24 local education agencies (LEAs).

Responsibilities include:

  • Serves as the technical specialist for monitoring of 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) funded afterschool programs.
  • Provides leadership, managerial direction, and technical assistance to local recipients of the 21st CCLC funded grants.
  • Assists in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of afterschool programs designed to improve the academic achievement of disadvantaged children.
  • Provides professional development to 21st CCLC grantees in Maryland’s 24 LEAs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:A Master's degree or the equivalent of 36 credit hours of post-baccalaureatecourse work from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four yearsof administrative or teaching experience in, or affiliated with, an educationprogram.

Notes:

1.Candidatesmay substitute a Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of experience directly relatedto the position option for the required education.

2.Candidatesmay substitute the possession of a Doctorate degree from an accredited collegeor university in a field related to the position option for one year of therequired experience.

3.Therequired field of education and experience are unique for each option and are establishedby MSDE in accordance with Education Article, Section 2-104 of the AnnotatedCode of Maryland. The specific education and experience qualifications for eachposition are on record in the Office of Human Resources.

4.Candidatesmay substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissionedofficer in Education Program classifications or Education Program specialtycodes in the Education field of work on a year-for-year basis for the requiredexperience and education.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have 2 years of experience in writing, reviewing or managing grants.

Employees in thisclassification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motorvehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motorvehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
